On 18-21 January 2021, the International water assessment center attended a high-level event hosted by the Government of Slovenia, the Government of Portugal, and the European Commission Directorate-General for International Partnerships (DG INTPA – formerly DG DEVCO) called Water and beyond – EU transformative approaches for international partnership.
The online event delivered several insights on how to strengthen transboundary cooperation, build broader partnership and trigger water investments in support of the Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement. It was aimed to create meaningful connections between thematic silos for the formulation and implementation of water policies, projects, and programs. It also laid the groundwork for applying the European Union’s priorities for International Partnerships in the water sector and the new EU green Deal program.
The 4-day online event included high-level panels, thematic sessions, and networking opportunities to facilitate contacts between participants. Water and beyond gathered government representatives from the European Union institutions, from EU Member States and EU partner countries, including policymakers from ministries addressing agriculture, energy, environment, and water, as well as national and international experts from private and public water entities, development agencies, financing institutions and civil society.
The event was held in English and French, with simultaneous interpretation.
