From 19 to 20 October 2021, the Central Asian Subregional Preparatory Conference for the 9th World Water Forum “Water Security for Peace and Development” was held in Dushanbe, Tajikistan.
The conference was organized with the aim of forming and agreeing on a regional agenda for the 9th World Water Forum (March 22-26, 2022) according to the most important issues for Central Asia. It also aimed to promote the implementation of the International Decade for Action 2018-2028 “Water for Sustainable Development”.
The Conference was attended by representatives of government agencies, water management organizations and other interested departments of Central Asian countries, international and regional organizations, non-governmental institutions and other experts. The Conference was organized by the IFAS Executive Committee with the support of the Government of Tajikistan and other donors.
During the event, reports were presented on priority issues of transboundary water cooperation, provision of clean water and sanitation, the relationship of water, energy, food and the environment, adaptation to climate change and financing of the water sector.
At the end of the Conference, the Organizing Committee announced information on the preparation of the final document of the Conference with comments and suggestions from the participants of the event, which will act as the main position of the Central Asian countries at the 9th World Water Forum in Dakar in 2022.
