On June 11-13, 2019, a training workshop was held in Kokshetau, Kazakhstan to strengthen the safety of mining operations and tailing dumps in Central Asia.

On June 4, 2019, in Nur-Sultan (Kazakhstan), a meeting was held between Vice-Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MoA) Yerlan Nyssanbayev and Director of the Environment Division of the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Mr. Marko Keiner with the participation of the Director of IWAC Mr. Serik Akhmetov.

On June 5, 2019, the Director of IWAC Mr. Serik Akhmetov met with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Israel in Kazakhstan Ms. Liat Vekselman in Nur-Sultan.

17 May 2019, Nur-Sultan. - In the framework of the XII Astana Economic Forum, the International Water Assessment Centre jointly with the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the World Bank and the EU Delegation in Kazakhstan held a high-level panel session “Water as a factor of economic growth and security in Central Asia”.

Nur-Sultan, April 29, 2019.  The ceremony of signing a Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation in the field of water management between the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Ministry of Interior of Hungary (hereinafter - the Memorandum) took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Saparkhan Omarov, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Mr. Mihai Varga, Deputy Prime Minister of Hungary, Minister of Finance of Hungary.

Tashkent, Uzbekistan, April 1-2, 2019. - The Conference of the European Union-Central Asia Water Science and Technology Network (hereinafter referred to as the Conference) was held with the participation of representatives of the Ministries of Agriculture and Energy of the countries of Central Asia, high-ranking diplomats, scientists from the water sector of the countries of Central Asia and the European Union.

March 12, 2019, the Director of International Water Assessment Centre (hereinafter - IWAC) S. Akhmetov held meeting with Mr. Guy Bonvin, Special Envoy for Water for Central Asia of the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation SDC at the IWAC office.

On 27-28 February 2019, the Twenty-eighth meeting of the Bureau of the Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes (hereinafter the Convention) chaired by the Republic of Kazakhstan represented by A.Zebeshev was held in Geneva (Switzerland) at the Palais des Nations.

The 6th High Level Conference was organized with the EU-Central Asia Platform for Cooperation on Environment and Water Resources, includes the following priority areas as environmental management, climate change and water management.

As global momentum builds in support of transboundary water cooperation worldwide, more than 15 countries from outside the Pan-European region have announced their interest to ratify the Water Convention. These accessions can reinforce transboundary cooperation agreements all over the world, which is crucial, given that in most transboundary basins, cooperation is not fit to deal with the growing water crisis.
